A landscape, like a moment, never happens twice: this lack of fixity is landscape’s asset. In “A Landscape Never Happens Twice” color highlights the rapid changes that can occur in landscape. This project was designed for Cool Gardens, a public exhibition of contemporary garden and art installations, located in Winnipeg’s downtown. The competition features locally, nationally, and internationally acclaimed artists and highlights the value of art and design in public space.
The color yellow paints over the entire garden, visually binding all hard and soft scape, but the unity of the site changes as time passes. By using a yellow mix of flowers, the softscape gradually shifts from a contrasting green to a yellow carpet of flowers. The sheer volume of flowers and the shifting contrast in color not only emphasizes the notion of change on the site, but makes for a spectacular event.
