BAL/LAB is a record of the ideas and experiments developed in our office.

Since 2006 our design studio has been divided in two parts.  The first is a landscape practice that investigates landscape as a constructed space. The second part, BAL/LAB, is everything else: collaborations across disciplines, exploration of new technologies, projects invented by us, temporary projects, landscape representation, peripheral vision, floating landscape, zero waste city, writing...

Concepts discussed in office meetings are taken up by groups of two or three, who research, brainstorm and assess technological feasibility. The labs are like sketches of ideas, they are playful, they are constantly evolving.

Ideas and experiments developed in the labs are sometimes implemented in “regular” projects, or become a project, or they are initiated in a project and then are pursued further as a lab.
