Tucuman Civic Center Campus project update

The new campus will bring together seven ministries and six secretariats of the region’s executive power along with all the local public administration services and its 4,700 employees which are now dispersed across the region.

The Landscape complements the buildings ( local governmental and administrative offices, auditoriums, coffee shops and commercial spaces) with public spaces, exterior circulations, entrance plazas and public parking. The landscape mediates the 15 meter elevation difference across the site through a series of terraces and ramps.

CENTRO LOLA MORA KICKOFF

Lola Mora (1866-1936) was the first Argentinian and South American sculptor. She is author of innumerable monuments across Argentina and the world. The Centro Lola Mora in Jujuy, Argentina will be composed of a museum dedicated to the work of the artist, a convention center and administrative offices. The 15 hectare landscaped site, which will include a sculpture park, and exterior amphitheater, gardens and parking sits on the bank of the Rio Grande and encompasses some of its riparian buffer.

An impressive group of Lola Mora’s sculptures originally at The Palace of the Argentine National Congress building when inaugurated in 1906 were removed some 15 years later under the pretext that they showed half-naked bodies. The artist donated them to Jujuy. And now after almost a century of being out in the open, the pieces began to show signs of deterioration, which inspired the creation of a museum dedicated to the work of Lola Mora.

Introducing Riverfront 47

Balmori Associates recently participated in Sharpsmeade, a Harry Potter themed festival which took place in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. We took this opportunity to introduce the community to Riverfront 47, a development that plans to work together with community members to incorporate a new park and trail that will run along the Allegheny River and connect the towns of Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, and O’Hara.

Our first activity included a large map of the riverfront. We asked community members to place stickers on areas where they would like transportation, activities, and other amenities such as food and entertainment.

The second activity was a Sharpsburg rendition of Harry Potter’s Marauder’s Map. We asked community members to draw what they would like to see or do in the park.

Finally, we conducted a jelly-bean survey to determine which activities would be most favored at the riverfront park and trail. Community members voted on activities such as bike riding, nature observation, and water recreation.
